Wondering where to stay in Grindelwald for the best view of the impressive Swiss Alps? This post shows you the best hotel in Grindelwald and details our full experience during our 4 nights stay.

Grindelwald is a stunning little village, located in the Jungfrau Region (Bernese Oberland) of Switzerland. It is a hiking paradise in summer and a great ski resort in winter. Grindelwald is also the best place to explore and climb the famous Eiger mountain.
So if you are considering it for your next Swiss adventure, you’ve made a great choice.
And trust me when I tell you: no matter how many pictures you’ve seen of Grindelwald, it is 100 times more impressive in real life.
We spent 4 nights in this fairytale village this August and I believe we found the best hotel with the most stunning mountain views: Hotel Kirchbühl Grindelwald.
If you’re looking to spend a few days exploring the Jungfrau Region, I think this is the perfect base for your trip.
Here is everything you need to know about the hotel and our experience.
Note: This is NOT a sponsored post. We pay for all our travels and accommodations ourselves. I’m sharing with you guys our experiences and the best hotels we stay at to inspire and help you make the most of your holidays. 🙂
Where to Stay In Grindelwald – Hotel Kirchbühl Review

I have done thorough research on the best places to stay in Grindelwald before booking our trip. And there are many wonderful hotels to choose from. Yet, when it comes to the views, I think nothing can beat hotel Kirchbühl.

The Location

With an unbeatable location, the hotel is situated on top of a quiet, green hill, above the Grindelwald Church. It overlooks the village and offers breathtaking views of the mountains and glaciers.
You can easily reach it in a short 10-minute walk from the train station.
Now, these amazing views come at a cost: being up on a hill, I’m not gonna lie, reaching it is quite a “hike” for those of us less cardio trained haha. But do not let this minor detail discourage you – the views will definitely compensate for the little effort. (I honestly had a hard time focusing on the path and not looking at the mountains every single time).
Of course, there is an easier way: you can take the bus to a nearby station and from there, it’s a short and less steep walk towards the hotel.
Another point I LOVED about the location is the fact that it is slightly away from the city center which gives that Swiss mountain chalet vibe.
You will also find the cable car for Grindelwald FIRST adventures as well as the ski school very close by (less than 5 minutes).
If you are coming by train, you can arrange to be picked up from the station.
If you are traveling by car, the hotel has a large parking lot and is easily reached from any highway – just follow the sign to Grindelwald.

The Check In

We had a very warm welcome at the hotel. As a 4 generation family-run business, you can definitely see (and feel) the care they put into making their guests feel amazing.
We were greeted with a smile by a lovely young receptionist dressed in a Swiss national outfit. The entire team wears this type of “uniform” which only enhances the authentic Swiss experience for the guests.
It’s great to see how the family members are all involved in the day-to-day business, either at reception or throughout the hotel.
During check-in, we received a tour of the hotel and restaurants, information regarding the region, a map as well as complimentary bus tickets for the entire stay. They did come in handy once or twice after our hikes. 😉
The Room With The Best View in Grindelwald

I do believe I have found the room with the best view in Grindelwald at this hotel.
Trust me, you will not get tired of staring at the peaks of Eiger, Wetterhorn, or at the gorgeous glacier.
Taking in the morning sun on our balcony or relaxing at the end of a hike with this panoramic view in front of us was such a treat!
The room was pretty nice too: spacious, cozy, and decorated in the same mountain chalet style.
I loved seeing the fresh fruits on the table, as well as the personal message from the hotel’s team. We also had welcome drinks waiting for us in the minibar (fresh mountain water, orange juice, and I think even some beers).
TRAVEL TIP: In Switzerland, and especially in the mountain villages, tap water is safe to drink and it’s probably one of the best in Europe.
The bathroom was not the most modern one but spotlessly clean and had everything you needed inside. Here you can also see the hotel’s focus on sustainability: no travel-size toiletries. The cotton buds and make-up removal pads were nicely stored in a non-plastic container which was refilled daily. The shower and hand soap are all organic and in refillable units as well.

The Breakfast & Restaurants

Breakfast with a stunning view!
In summer, if it’s warm enough, you can have your breakfast on the terrace. There’s nothing like watching the sun rise from behind the mountains while enjoying your morning tea (or coffee).
Whether you’re into a sweet or savory breakfast, there was plenty of choice with fresh, local products.
TRAVEL TIP: make sure to try the Ovomaltine (the Nutella of Switzerland) chocolate spread and icecream, they’re SO good!
In the afternoon, you can also enjoy various types of cakes, which are included in your stay.
For the foodies among us, Hotel Kirchbühl has 2 restaurants on site:
- La Marmite: if you’re looking for a fine dining experience with regional influences.
- The Panorama restaurant: traditional dishes with a gorgeous view.
We haven’t tried the restaurants this time, as we preferred to go for a walk in the evening and eat in the city center.
For a typical Swiss Rösti, you definitely have to try Barrys. Grindelwald also has some great Indian food restaurants, and I think we found the best one: Golden India. There were people lining up in the street waiting for a table, so better make a reservation ahead of time.
Checking Out From Hotel Kirchbühl Grindelwald

The checkout process was pretty smooth, just as checking in. We did not have to wait long and were done in a few minutes. Same as in Zermatt, here we also received complimentary drinks for the road, which is a small gesture but so nice to see the extra attention.
We left delighted and relaxed after such a wonderful stay in Grindelwald.
Final Thoughts – Where To Stay In Grindelwald
If you are looking to explore the Jungfrau Region (visit the Jungfraujoch, hike the Eiger Trail, and more) then Grindelwald is the best place to stay!
We’ve had a great experience with Hotel Kirchbühl: the mountain view, the chalet vibe, and the team’s hospitality were truly impressive. I definitely recommend staying here during your upcoming vacation in Switzerland.
