Looking for a deeply hydrating face moisturizer that soothes dry skin and fixes the flaky look? Here are my best-tested face creams for dry and sensitive skin which fix flakiness really fast.

There is nothing more annoying than applying makeup on dry, flaky skin. The foundation doesn’t stick properly, the skin becomes flaky and in the end, you are left with a nasty cakey effect on your face.
Unfortunately, I speak from experience. But luckily, this also means I have tested A LOT of face creams, in search of the perfectly hydrating moisturizer that also fixes flakiness, FAST.
First, let’s start with the route of the problem and have a look at what causes flaky skin to begin with.
What causes flaky skin?
Dry skin is of course often one of the main causes why your skin peels off. So taking good care of your skin, using gentle, good quality products, and staying hydrated is important.
(Have a look here at the top 10 skin care mistakes you need to avoid, to make sure you are taking good care of your skin.)
The weather is another factor, often amplified during winter times, due to lower temperatures, harsh winds, and low humidity levels. Dry air in indoor spaces can also cause our skin to dry out. Consider using a humidifier to add some moisture to the air.
The products you use daily on your face can also affect the dryness of your skin. For example ingredients such as retinoids or alcohol are known for causing dryness.
The best moisturizer for flaky, dry skin
If like me, you’re constantly dealing with flaky skin and are looking for a good face moisturizer to help fix it, here are the best products I’ve tested and that ACTUALLY WORK:
The 2 brands I swear by when it comes to skincare are BIOTHERM and La Roche Posay.
I have been using them both for years and my dry, sensitive skin is LOVING IT. Not sure if you’re supposed to do this, but I love to alternate my skincare products and try new ones as well, but I always come back to these two in the end.
BIOTHERM – Aqua Bounce Super Concentrate

This product was my first introduction to the brand and I was BLOWN AWAY by the instant improvements I saw on my skin. Intense hydration, glowing skin, and no more flakiness! Could it be real?!
This hydrating gel is specially formulated to heal rough skin and dry, flaky skin by retaining moisture.
As BIOTHERM describes it: Infused with Biotherm exclusive ingredient Life Plankton™ water and hyaluronic acid, aqua bounce boosts your skin’s natural ability to bounce back.
I used this mostly in the evening.
BIOTHERM – Aquasource (Dry Skin)

After trying the gel, I was hooked. I went on to test the rest of the Aquasource line and I’ve been a happy customer for years.
For my morning skincare routine, I most recently used the face cream (for dry skin) which also instantly fixed the flaky skin on my face after only one-two days of use. I HIGHLY recommend it, because it really works.
It has a rich, creamy texture, without feeling sticky and delivers intense and long-lasting hydration. I also love the light, delicate fragrance.
BIOTHERM – Aquasource (Gel)

If a light texture moisturizer is more your thing, then this one is a perfect choice.
The texture is a gel, very light and soothing. It is also suitable for all skin types, even sensitive.
This product is also a great base for makeup. You might just need to tone down that glow with a bit of powder though, from my experience.
BIOTHERM – Aquasource Night Spa

It is of course important to make sure our skin is well hydrated during the nighttime as well.
This night cream is true in its promise. It replenishes the moisture levels in your skin, while the rich texture and fragrance truly make it feel like a spa treatment at home.
La Roche Posay – Toleriane Ultra Overnight

When it comes to skincare, particularly sensitive skin, you really can’t go wrong with La Roche Posay.
(If you’d like to read more on how to best take care of sensitive skin, check out these 7 easy sensitive skin care tips.)
The brand is recommended by over 90.000 dermatologists world-wide. I’ve actually had it recommended to me by 2 different skincare professionals in 2 different countries.
I’m a big fan of (most of) their products, but since we’re talking here about the best moisturizer for flaky skin, I had to include these 2 products:
The first one is the Toleriane Ultra Overnight cream, a highly soothing, intense moisturizer, formulated for even the most sensitive skin types.
As La Roche Posay describes it: Ultra-soothing overnight moisturiser enriched in La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water that combines Neurosensine, a strong soothing agent that targets the signs of skin irritation due to dryness, with the Carnosine/Vitamin E complex that decreases the occurrence of discomfort and redness upon awakening.
Another thing I love about this product is the packaging, more precisely the cap. Its hermetic closing (a short twist) makes it perfect for traveling.
The second moisturiser worth mentioning is:
La Roche Posay – Rosaliac UV Riche

This daily moisturizer is perfect if, like me, you’re also dealing with sensitive skin prone to redness. (as if dry, flaky skin wasn’t enough, am I right?!)
I’ve also been experimenting with many anti-redness face creams out there, yet so far this is the one that seems to have the best results. At least on my skin.
It’s a rich and nourishing cream that also helps in reducing skin flakiness, therefore I thought it’s worth mentioning here too.
The only one thing I am not such a big fan of is the fragrance. I’ll be honest – it doesn’t smell that good. My boyfriend REALLY doesn’t like it when I’m using it and can even smell it on me from a short distance haha.
But, if you can get past that, I still think it’s a really good product, that actually WORKS. (really hoping they’ll do something about that fragrance though).
So there you have it, my top tested and most used moisturizers for flaky skin. Hope it was helpful!
