How I Discovered The Eiger Hotel In Murren

Murren is one of my favorite villages in Switzerland and a place I love returning to every year. The stunning mountain landscape, fresh air, and amazing hikes are what make Murren the perfect base for exploring the Jungfrau Region.
I spotted the Eiger Hotel during our visit to Murren last year. It was right next to our own hotel, the Eiger Guesthouse, which is actually part of the same chain. (It is a very cute and definitely great value-for-money option in Murren).
As I was passing by the Eiger hotel, I could see these beautiful images of their spa and rooms, very smartly displayed outside their wall. They got me “hooked”.
I took a snapshot of it, with the intention (*dream*) to come back and stay at this hotel, even just for one night. Turns out, I have the most amazing boyfriend who turned this dream into the perfect birthday gift. 🙂 So this August we spent 4 nights here and had a fantastic time.
This is what our experience looked like and the main reasons why I think you need to book this place:
The Perfect location

Hotel Eiger is very conveniently located right across the Murren train station. It literally takes two minutes to reach it.
In case you didn’t know, Murren is a car-free village, and the train is the only way to get here.

But don’t worry, there isn’t much noise from the trains. The hotel windows are very good at covering all sounds so there is no inconvenience. Plus the train is pretty small and doesn’t run very late, so it will not disturb your sleep.
As you would expect to form a 4-star hotel, Eiger hotel offers a pick-up from the train station in Murren should you need it.
One thing they could probably do better is to have it clearly visible for the tourists arriving at the station. We actually spotted someone helping travelers but did not know which hotel he was from. As we travel light, we didn’t need any assistance and shortly arrived at the reception.
The Welcome & Check In
A very smooth check-in process and a warm welcome from the receptionist. She offered a hiking map and information about the village and region. As it wasn’t our first time here, we were pretty familiar with the area so didn’t require much guidance.
We also learned more about the hotel restaurant, and the breakfast and spa area and soon headed to our room.

The Rooms & Epic View At Eiger Hotel in Murren

The most stunning view of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks awaits you at the Eiger hotel. There is nothing like waking up in the morning to the sun rising behind the mountains and you getting to experience all that from your own balcony.
The rooms are lovely as well: pretty spacious and decorated in a modern yet cozy, alpine look. The bathroom is quite large as well, with a tub – perfect for a hot bath after a long hike. You will also find here robes and slippers as well as toiletries from L’Occitane.

2 heart shape Lindt Chocolates were waiting for us in the room as well as a reusable water bottle. I loved this practical idea. In case you don’t have your own, you can use it during your stay and take it with you on your hikes.
TRAVEL TIP: The water is safe to drink and probably one of the purest (you are in the Swiss Alps after all) so there is no need to buy bottled water.
While there is no coffee maker inside the room, there is a coffee machine at the entrance of the restaurant with cups for enjoying on the spot or on the go.
The Breakfast & Restaurant at Hotel Eiger Murren

An indulging breakfast was waiting for us every morning at hotel Eiger and I was definitely looking forward to it! 🙂
There are many options to choose from, regardless if you prefer a sweet or savory breakfast. Swiss cheese, smoked salmon, lots of veggies, as well as croissants and freshly baked cakes just to name a few.
TRAVEL TIP: make sure to try Ovomaltine (the Nutella of Switzerland) chocolate spread, it’s SO good!
The best part of the breakfast though was the view. If the weather is good, you can choose to go out on the terrace and enjoy your breakfast in the sun. I absolutely LOVE this terrace – which is also the restaurant where lunch and dinner are served.
I can honestly say that the Eiger hotel has one of the best terraces with the most amazing views in Murren.
If you’d like to try the restaurant, it’s recommended to book in advance, as it might get busy. You can learn more about the restaurants and menu here.
We also went to the Edelweiss restaurant – great schnitzel or steak, and the Eiger Guesthouse for the best raclette. Make sure to give those a try next time you are in Murren.
The SPA at Eiger Hotel Murren

Enjoying the spa area at the Eiger hotel has been the highlight of our stay.
The pool is pretty big- big enough that you can swim a few laps, and has the most incredible view of the Eiger and Mönch. The water isn’t extremely warm, yet perfect for some active swimming. We also enjoyed the jacuzzi area which was a good treat after a day in the mountains.
I absolutely loved the morning when I had the beautiful terrace overlooking the Alps all to myself. As Marius was climbing on the via Ferrata, I relaxed in the morning sun. I had a book beside me, yet I could not take my eyes off the gorgeous mountain peaks in front of me.
The relaxation area is another part of the spa you should definitely try! We had one full day of rain during our stay, so we spent most of it here. The room is very cozy, with a glass wall facing the mountain and sled lounge chairs.
You will love the calming music, bird sounds, warm temperature (28C), fresh fruits, and lemon water. This was probably one of my favorite spots of the hotel and I can only imagine how incredible it must be in winter as well.

Checking Out from Hotel Eiger Murren
The checkout process was very smooth and fast. We were done in just a few minutes and, same in other high-end hotels in Switzerland, we received a little treat for the road.
It’s incredible how these small details – a simple bottle of water for your journey, can have such an impact. It show’s the hotel team’s attention to not only making your stay comfortable but also your journey home as well.
Final thoughts – Hotel Eiger Murren Review

We felt pampered, relaxed, and spoiled by the incredible mountain views during our stay at the Eiger Hotel in Murren.
We’ve also appreciated the politeness and care for every detail of this family-run hotel’s team.
I highly recommend it in case you are planning your trip to this area. For us, it will definitely be the place where we will come back again – in summer, but most definitely in wintertime too.
If I’ve inspired you to give it a try, you can make a reservation directly on the hotel’s website or via Booking.com. It has a 9,4 rating, trusted by many travelers.
I hope you found my review of the Eiger hotel helpful and wishing you a great time in Murren! Happy travels! 🙂

We also enjoy the Hotel Eiger, but just FYI it is not part of any chain.
Hi David,
Thanks for your comment. I was referring to the smaller hotel next door – the Eiger Guesthouse which belongs to the same family.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it as well!
